Fishing Report 11th August

ROLY’s Fishing Report – 11th August 2016

–Hauraki, The Hits, News Talk, Radio Sport —

More challenging weather has limited fishing efforts again, but the up side of the bad weather is the fish have had a good rest from any fishing pressure.

Reports around Motiti Island have been particularly good the past week, albeit with chilly water temps. Now there has been some very good soft baiting around the 10-15m reef edges producing beautiful dark kelpy snapper in the 3-5kg range. The most successful baits have been lime tiger and the nuclear chicken these weighed on a half-ounce jig head. Right now its also a good idea to check the weather and make sure you are now returning home into one of those strong westerlies.

For something different White baiting season kicks off on the 15th Augustand early reports have been positive with bait spotted moving through the harbour and the Kaituna and Wairoa also looking promising. Now if you have never been white baiting, get in to see the fellas at Hamills and TopCatch and get the run down its great fun, just follow the rules available from the dept of Conservation.

Coming up is the Albacore Hapuka Tournament 10/11th September, entries on sale now.
