FISHING REPORT FOR HAURAKI, RADIO SPORT, NEWTALK 2nd Dec 2016
The fishing scene has a bit of a rest with the relentless westerlies, however some lighter winds in the morning should make getting out over the next week completely achievable.
Inshore, the snapper are living right on the beach with good fishing inside of 20m of water, the hot spot with good fishing the past week has been Kaituna pines area and Papamoa East. The kayakers have proving that early morning sessions are worth the effort with softbaits and baits working equally well.
Offshore in the deeper water the bluenose fishing is well worth the effort only if the weather allows you to stay on your spot. Upsize your puka bombs if there is a bit of wind, and keep your hooks on the smaller size 12/0 or 14/0 is fine. For baits, it’s hard to beat medium sized strips of skippie or squid. Remember no to strike your fish, rather feed the bait back a bit when you feel bite and then lift the rod slowly to hopefully load up.
Coming up at the Club – we have our final couple of Club nights on Tuesday and Thursday, with Ham night on the 13th. The next fishing event is the Hirepool Trailer Boat Tournament on the 6-7th Jan, book it in its going to be huge!
